Flare® Studio Master IEM features our patented Mirror Image Sound Technology that improves how soundwaves are reflected inside IEMs to increase sound quality. This model is equipped with high-spec Beryllium drivers and professional MMCX connectors.

Winner of Magnetic Magazine Editors Choice Award 2025

Our unique IEMs have been designed to minimise adding any additional resonances which in turn improves the listening experience and enables a deeper connection to the music.

Music is created by thousands of sound resonances. Every voice, instrument and nuance in music has been formed by soundwaves reflecting inside different spaces. This is what makes music so captivating and enjoyable to listen to. The issue is that traditional IEMs also resonate and add to this resonance, damaging the original source resonances.

Flare Studio is for anyone who wants to experience more immersive sound, higher levels of sound quality and reveal more detail in music without the additional distortions other IEMs produce.

Mirror Image Sound Technology features two angled, flat surfaces that reflect soundwaves with complete accuracy into the ears. This enables sound information to reflect accurately inside the IEM whilst minimising additional IEM-based resonances.

We developed Mirror Image Sound Technology following two decades of research in sound and hearing. Mirror Image Sound technology uses a unique particle approach to sound design. By understanding how each particle vibrates inside an IEM it allowed us to understand, at a fundamental level, how to reduce IEM-based resonances.

Every Flare Studio IEM is manufactured, assembled and tested at Flare HQ in Lancing, England by Flare engineers.

What Is Mirror Image Sound?

Music is created by thousands of sound resonances. Every voice, instrument and nuance in music has been formed by soundwaves reflecting and resonating inside different spaces. This is what makes music so captivating, enjoyable and identifiable. IEMs are also designed to resonate to create their own unique sound signature, but this damages the original source material, distorting detail. We believe music should be experienced exactly as the artist intended.

Mirror Image Sound Technology features 2 angled, flat surfaces that reflect soundwaves with complete accuracy. This enables the IEMs driver to be positioned in the perfect place so that sound information enters the ears without any additional resonances from the IEM enclosure.

“The human ear naturally creates resonance, possibly a survival trait from ancient times. But in music, that resonance pollutes sound and has a detrimental effect on the sound we hear. We’ve solved that problem by addressing how sound enters the ear, resulting in breathtaking audio. Now, the journey from bold concept to revolutionary reality is complete, and the result is truly game-changing.”

Finally an In-Ear Solution I can Trust

Having spent 40 years making records I’ve struggled to find an in ear solution for mixing and mastering. The Studio Masters are the first pair to accurately match my monitoring system and help additionally to hear mixing errors and tonal issues that the monitors overlooked. Just try them and thank me later.

Another innovative product From Flare

As owning the Flare E Prototype. I was excited to see the next step. The Flare studio master. On receiving my new earphones. The box opening was a stylish and simple experience. The additional silicone and foam tips perfectly fitted. I favoured the medium audiophile foam tips. The sound was highly impressive.
Warm unbloated low end, decisively good bass. The mids personally the star of the show. Good and not overbearing, Leaving the treble to do it's work. Like the E Prototypes you never need a high powered Dac amp to get the best out of these. A perfect combination was with my Hidizs Sonata HD Dac cable. Small and perfect with little weight and clutter. Separation and sound stage was decent. Only one slight gripe was that the Bluetooth adapter was a bit aged. Micro usb port and no LDAC codec support. But to be honest didn't really effect the overall sound quality.
Flare Audio have come up trumps once more. My new favourite IEM/ Earphones. Just an absolute gem to listen too.
Thanks again flare audio for making me happy.

Great headphones

I did order black but the site crashed half way through and got white, heyho. The sound of the headphones is not uprupted by the colour of a wire. They are very good and the sound quality is great. The only downside I have found is the quality if the Bluetooth adapter it is cheap!! it still has a usb micro adaptor and the cover of the charging port will last about a month as it is made of such brittle plastic. The one semi good point the Bluetooth actually connects fairly easily and it asks for security rather than being open. It does not come with a charging cable which at the price would not have hurt.

What an incredible true and clear sound!

What an incredible true and clear sound! I had many headphones throughout the years, from Beats, Sony, Airpods and currently Focal, but NO ONE comes close to Flare. If there is one critical note; it looks a bit cheap, the plastic pods.

I’ve had these for a few weeks. They’re brilliant.

I’ve had these for a few weeks now and am impressed.
The best way of describing them is like comparing tv pictures…..£20 earbuds are like watching tv in standard definition. You can recognise the program but miss a lot of detail. My Bose QC 2 earbuds are like watching in HD. A hell of a leap forward from SD and produce a great sound but a bit too “rounded” and low on detail. Then you get Flare Studio Masters and it’s like upgrading to 4K on an OLED tv….. a huge leap forward. You can hear all the detail the production team wanted you to hear and it’s brilliant. As some have said it can spoil your enjoyment of some songs that aren’t as well produced as you thought they were when listening with different earphones but I absolutely love these. Highly recommended.

Fantastic!

I have used Calmer and Calmer Pro and they were brilliant for my stress in busy, noisy places so I decided to try their technology in the form of earphones and I’m glad I did!
I’ve always chose Bose for headphones and earphones but these Flare Studio Masters blow them out of the water. The quality and power of sound is superb and like others say, you get to hear so much more of the songs which was previously hidden. They are also comfortable to wear once you get the right tip choice for your ears.
Absolutely love them!

Studio Master ? A joke....

beautiful packaging, nice choice of tips and good isolation.
and the sound ? NO, sorry...
boxy in wired mode, not precise, not fun, and a bit too much of low end.
but with Bluetooth receiver: Unusable ! unacceptable hiss level, a mountain of low end... really bad quality.
I'm so desapointed. it sounds like a 10$ in-ear !!!
you definitively can't call that "studio master" and sell it at this price.

Bargain at this sale price. I got these to replace my Flare mirror in sound Kickstarter earbuds and I do think that they are an improvement. Even if it’s just because they are so much lighter

Almost sent it back as the sound quality was very poor. Realised that it was the adaptor for the jack that was faulty. Had to use the one that I’ve bought earlier for the pro version.

Sounds great, better fit than before!

Sounds as good as the ones with the triangles. Which is great, because the triangles where way to big for a nice fit, especially when flying or working out a lot..

Music sounds better with Flare!

The transparency provided by Flare's Mirror Image Sound technology, along with the cohesion provided by a high-spec single dynamic driver is a winning combination.
The tuning here seems to be a subtle evolution from the previous (crowd-funded) EARS range, with perhaps a little more treble extension adding to the impression of a slightly wider soundstage. Both of these are good things. Bass is still best-in-class fabulous in terms of quality.
Amazing value at the price point. I have a much more expensive IEM set from a well-known Japanese brand, and spend 95% of my listening time with the Flares.
Next, I'd like to see perhaps a nicer looking / feeling cable - 3.5mm plug is fine, I don't hear any particular sonic advantage from using a balanced cable with e.g, 4.4mm termination with this model. A design which better supports wearing them 'up' (cable over the ears) would be welcome. Perhaps a calibration certificate with the individual frequency response (FR) curve? Flare tend not to publish FR but if this is a serious audio engineering tool then calibration is important.
I hope Flare continue to evolve this tech, perhaps speed up the iteration of models, offering alternative tunings, and take the fight out to some global competition. Published FR curves and review models in the hands of some key enthusiast influencers (not just consumer mags / websites) could help get Flare well-earned international attention and a bigger slice of an expanding global pie.

Unlike anything I have heard

From the Flare R2 to the Flares Pro, Pro2HD, E-Prototype, EARS and now the Flare Studio line, the improvement in sound has been a steady upward progression.
The clarity of sound is unlike anything I have heard. They are bright, crisp & detailed, with nice fast, tight & responsive bass, but not too much of any one of those qualities.
The customisable form factor is definitely a plus, allowing you to pair with any cables, DACs, DAPs or devices at your own will.
On sale they are a no-brainer!!! But you will not be disappointed either way, there is no reason why these wouldn't be your only IEM from now on.

Not as innovative as described

All of the ads and buzz word description on sound and engineering quality peeked my interest, so given the generous trial period, I decided to give the top of the range a go.
Unfortunately not everyone's hearing is the same and due to the absence of an equaliser or app, the sound quality fell short of the claims in the description.
The sound was very flat and muffled. It also severely lacked in the sound stage department and instrument separation is not as clear as buds under half the price paid.
I can't fault the company for their timely response to emails and exceptional no quibble trial period but I'm afraid they do not tick the desired boxes for my listening preferences.

Not happy with UX

For a company so publicly concerned with quality of sound and comfort, the software in these announces WAY TOO LOUDLY with "POWER ON" and sometimes two dings and a "YOUR HEADSET IS CONNECTED" or "POWER OFF" the status of the headset. After I've turned them on but haven't yet played any audio or received a call, they'll keep announcing with two dings and a "YOUR HEADSET IS CONNECTED" that it is indeed connected which means I either can't wear them or can't turn them on in anticipation of a phone call because of the discomfort of these idiotic announcements blaring into my ear canals.

The quality of sound is good and fine, nice reproduction of bass, but I don't find them that comfortable to wear: the foam thingys are fine but the balance point is somewhere outside of my ear because of the size of the things so they pull downwards and outwards and must be adjusted quite often which leads to some soreness of the inside of the ear.

Great musical invention

The sound and musical qualities of these ”pro” earphones are the best I’ve experienced. They clearly surpass the musical experience of Apple AirPods Pro 2 as well as those of several different Nuraphone earphones (eg NuraTrue 569 and headphones NuraPhone 965).

The sound is crisp, the bass lovely, and the “timing” of all sounds, from low bass to high treble, is utterly exact which makes for great musical performance. For the first time I’ve been able to fully appreciate some jazz recordings that earlier seemed “bleak”.

Best headphones I've ever had!

I bought these when I lost my previous bluetooth ones. I was a bit sceptical with a brand I wasn't familiar with, but found reassurance in the 100 day money back guarantee. I thought to myself, give it a month or two, and return them if I'm not happy. Within 10 mins of getting them in my ears, decision made to definitely keep them. I got both the buetooth and cable option and they're nothing short of superb. The sound quality is outstanding and they're comfortable to wear. These headphones outperform much more expensive ones out there and are great for all sorts of music as well as podcasts and audiobooks. I've mainly used the wired set up as the quality is a cut above, but the bluetooth option is also great for when you need it. I highly reccomend these, they are the best headphones I've owned but not the most expensive by a decent margin.

Simply the best sound hands down

I was blown away when I first tried these earphones, no exaggeration. I was in awe to know how much sound I was missing in the songs I was regularly listening to. If you are an audiophile, using these earphones and enjoying the recordings as the creators intended them to sound should be the best way to honor music.

The ear fit is tight, which I appreciate; however, this causes me to feel a little uncomfortable after wearing them for more than a few hours. Also, I can't wear this at my work desk because I couldn't hear it when my colleagues were trying to catch my attention. However, if you have been annoyed by sound leakage, these earphones should resolve that issue. Tightness of the sound is perfect if you only want to focus on the music you are listening to.

This feature could be important for someone—I don't believe it says it on the product page, but Bluetooth does come with a mic, so you can take calls wearing them. As a matter of fact, the mic quality is great. Before this pair, I had the latest model of Bluetooth earphones by Bowers & Wilkins until I lost them. They were easily twice the price of the Studio Master Combo (so USD $400+), yet the mic quality was terrible, and my husband used to complain that I sounded like I was underwater. With these earphones, he says my voice is coming in clearly, and the audio listening experience is also better than that of Bowers & Wilkins. I also notice myself loving the remote controller and the promptness of the connection when you power them on.

Why 4 stars, then? A few minor reasons. 1) The snap-on system of earphones on the cords kind of freaked me out in the beginning, but now I got used to it. However, it is yet to be seen whether repeated snapping on and off of the earphone heads will change the quality of sound (by connection issues? I dunno) down the road. 2) I mainly use the Bluetooth. I really actually love the cord so that I'm not afraid to drop either earphone on the ground when scrambling to wear them, and if I need to speak to any random people, I can easily take one side off and leave it hanging. However, those bars on the cord are weighing it down in a weird way, so until you find a comfortable spot around your collar for them to sit, it can be slightly annoying, and you might find yourself constantly adjusting the wear. 3) I live in an urban setting and take the subway (NYC). I have noticed that when passing by people or in a crowded area, the sound has gotten interrupted here and there, and I think it could be due to the strength of Bluetooth or something like that. This should not be an issue if you don't use them in similar environments to mine.

Having said that, compared to other Bluetooth earpods out there, you cannot beat the quality of the sound-hearing experiences. I am hopeful that these will endure for an extended period (I purchased the E-prototype prior to the pandemic, but it unexpectedly stopped working one day after a year or so), and I assure you that the price is well worth it.

Our Story

The very first Flare products came to life at our first Flare HQ – a garage in our founders garden. As a small team of three we designed and built our first loudspeakers and provided PA for gigs and festivals.

It wasn’t long before we ran out of space...
