Flare Zero® IEM

$795.00 AUD

Flare Zero has been designed to advance the listening experience beyond that of any other device by eliminating all device distortions.

Music no longer sounds recorded on Flare Zero - it feels real. You don’t just hear voices and instruments; you feel the texture and space surrounding them. It's a completely transformative listening experience that is fundamentally more immersive and emotionally captivating than you've heard before.

Designed and made at Flare HQ in England.

Flare Zero IEMs are the result of a pursuit to remove the distortions that stand between us and the true emotion of music. Engineered and built at Flare HQ in England, Flare Zero uses world-first acoustic technologies to create a listening experience that feels more open, immersive and profoundly connected to the artist, the performance and every detail within the recording.

When an IEM stops adding resonance, everything changes. Music no longer feels reproduced, it feels real. You don’t just hear a voice, you feel the person behind it. You don’t just hear instruments, you experience their texture, design and the space surrounding them.

Flare Zero reveals the space, detail and emotion within a recording with extraordinary precision. The result is a powerful sense of presence, as though the artist, the room and the performance itself are unfolding around you.

“It's like a whole world had just been opened up and I was in a place of discovery and not just sonically. I'm in a place that I don't think I've ever been, and it's so hard to describe that feeling. But there's discovery possible.  It's a place for me with zero interference. They're not headphones - there's something different. They're totally unique.”

“It’s a rebirth of the recording, like you haven't really heard it. My instinct is I want to go back and listen to loads of old records now. It just makes you realise how joyous it is to actually listen to music properly.  You actually listen to it. Rather than just hear it.”

How It Works

By eliminating IEM resonance, Flare Zero® reveals the true, uncompromised emotion of the original recording.

Our 18 Year Journey To Zero

When Naomi and I founded Flare Audio in 2010, it came from something deeply personal, a belief that music should move us more than it does. That somewhere between the artist and the listener, something was being lost.

I became obsessed with understanding why.

Again and again, I kept hearing the same problem: resonance. Hidden reflections and distortions inside speakers, headphones and even inside our own ears were masking detail, smearing emotion and changing the way sound made us feel. Much of the audio world accepted this as unavoidable. I couldn’t accept that. I believed that if we could remove those distortions, we could bring people closer to the truth and emotional power of the music itself.

What began as a tiny three-person operation building loudspeakers in a garage became years of relentless experimentation. During the week, we designed and built systems by hand. At weekends, we tested them at gigs and festivals across the UK, pushing them hard in real-world environments where sound either connects emotionally or it doesn’t.

Those years led to the creation of our breakthrough technologies, Space and Vortex. Instead of trying to dampen resonance after it had already damaged the sound, I wanted to stop it from being created in the first place. The effect was transformative. Music felt more open, more human, more emotionally alive. You weren’t just hearing more detail, you were feeling more of what the artist intended.

Our systems went on to be used at major festivals including Bestival and the Isle of Wight Festival, as well as productions such as Mark Ronson and Katy B’s Anywhere in the World for the London 2012 Olympics. Later, producer Flood selected Flare for Node Live at the Royal College of Music because of its extraordinary ability to reveal the full dynamic range and emotional depth of sound while almost disappearing from the listening experience itself.

But deep down, I knew this journey was leading somewhere much bigger than loudspeakers. One question kept pulling at me:

If resonance can distort sound systems so dramatically, what is it doing inside our ears?

That question changed the direction of my life.

After bringing our technology into personal audio with products like R2 and later the crowdfunding phenomenon Isolate®, I began exploring the acoustic behaviour of human hearing itself. What I discovered was profound.

The ear is not simply a passive receiver of sound. Reflections inside the ear actively shape how we experience clarity, harshness, space, timing and emotion. In many ways, the ear itself was becoming part of the distortion.

Those discoveries ultimately led to Mirror Image Sound™, an entirely new approach to earphone and IEM design that works with the natural acoustic behaviour of the ear rather than fighting against it with aggressive electronic correction.

Every breakthrough along this journey has followed the same philosophy:
remove secondary resonance and reveal more truth.

From huge festival sound systems to devices worn invisibly inside the ear, everything we have created has been driven by one pursuit, removing the barriers between people and the emotional experience of sound.

Flare Zero IEMs are the culmination of that pursuit.

Not an iteration. Not another tuning exercise. But a complete reimagining of what personal audio can become when resonance no longer stands between you and the music.

For me, Flare Zero is not just about hearing more. It’s about feeling more.

BOOM.

Sound is natural. I'm not a big IEM user so take my review with a grain of salt... but IMO there is nothing missing... bass is powerful even DEEP... and EQ is not needed for anything else. I don't think I need to shop for another in ear ever again.

The bass is completely part of the music instead of feeling separate from it. I’ve never heard music this way, thank you so much for going outside of the box and inventing a new instrument.

Flare outdo themselves once again

I own numerous Flare IEMs, and each one just gets better and better.
I was really settling in with my Studio Masters when the Zero were announced, and it didn't take much persuasion for me to pull the trigger.
They still pack the punch of the Studio series but in a gentler, subtler way. One description I have given is that rather than sounding like a performance has just begun, the delicacy of the sound is as if music is already playing and you have just walked closer to it. The sound isn't forced upon you, your ears just hear it.
None of this goes without mentioning the fantastic team at Flare Audio who check in on you consistently regarding order status and customer satisfaction. They are a company who really care how their customers feel.

To me, they shine!

I have severe hearing loss, with only about 10% hearing in one ear, so I EQ my computer to boost the higher frequencies.

The first song I played through the Flares was George Duke’s “It’s On”—the original studio version. For the first time ever, I could clearly tell that the Rhodes had been recorded through speakers. I had never heard or even noticed that detail before.

Considering my hearing loss, that says a lot.

I’m genuinely impressed.

Nothing better at this price

These are without doubt one of the best pairs of IEMs you can buy for the price. Soundstage, separation and clarity is outstanding and you will hear all the details in hi res files with no feedback or resonance. If you are thinking about getting a pair I hope this helps with your decision. I may be a bit of a nerd when it comes to headphones but I truly believe that these are one of the best pairs of earphones I own and I have a lot.

Mission Accomplished!

This IEM caught my eye because I don't see too many brands trying to innovate on sound anymore. Through form and material design (and maybe a sprinkle of love), I think Flare has succeeded in their mission. These sound great! I also want to highlight Flare's customer service. With logistical issues that were out of their hands, they were still willing to take accountability for it and were able to convey clear and up-to-date communication with me. You can consider me to be a proud owner of what I hope to be are lifelong headphones.

Unbelievably good pair of Zero IEM

I was stunned and amazed and still am amazed at the box when I opened the package. I stared at it for long time although I was pretty sure how the box was to be opened. I will be keeping the box for a long time.

I believe all of us started with wired earphones back in the days and finally migrated to wireless as technologies improved and the convenience and sort of freedom without the wire took over. For what it's worth, I have decided to give zero from Flare Audio a try despite the price and I am now a convert again for the wired sound. My expensive ANC headphones are no match to what I’m hearing when I put on the zero. Very personal and almost touchable sound.

I played Beachball - the original club mix by Nalin and Kane, Trouble’s What You’re In - Live from Union Chapel, London by Fink and Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major and a few others just to test the zero for the first time. Like I said, I was touched and felt almost emotional. I believe I can live with inconvenience of having to have a wire hanging from my ears during my commute. The passive sound isolation works better than the other ANCs that I have in the sense that it is more natural sounding overall. I have fitted my zero with a 3rd party earbuds.

A really good pair of earphones. I would recommend this to everyone.

Amazing clarity and separation

Being a dance music lover I was wondering if these would work better than so many other expensive iems of which I own a few. Simple answer is these are up there with iems which are 3 times the price. Flare always seem to find a way to improve sound clarity a now they have improved soundstage and separation to levels unheard of in an iem. Because there is no resonance the iems produce a sound so clear they rival a high end set of speakers. I am over the moon with my purchase.

Best IEMs ever

First, let me say I’ve tried almost all IEMs over my audiophile years. And after all those years I’ve consistently came back to simple pair of discontinued in ear wired headphones from Grado. That is - until today! WOW. I had to play around with the various ear tips to get the best seal without clogging the ear canal but once I did, my gosh. The soundstage is amazingly balanced, producing what the artist wanted you to hear while not being over dramatic. Going with high def FLAC files and listening to Neil Young’s Harvest produced a feeling of being in the room. Moving towards something a bit more metal - Mastodon “the Hunter” produced a sound stage with no ear rattle allowing the various intricate guitar movements come alive. I could go on and on…

Amazing Product. My music collection has come alive.

As a purchaser of other Flare products, (Calmer, Definition, Ear HD 90) I received early notification of the Zero Reference IEM. The description of what they do, what the different components do, and testimonies of recording engineers, producers and artists clinched the deal. The price gave me major pause. This is WAAAAY, beyond what I would normally spend. I’m not a musician, recording professional, or even an audiophile by normal definitions. BUT, I really like music with good clarity and bass without sounding artificially enhanced. From the descriptions, I was pretty sure I wasn’t going to find anything better to achieve those objectives. So I bit the bullet and bought them. I am so glad I did. I have never heard so much additional elements of the music I listen to that I never heard before or knew existed in the recordings. The layering and spatial placement of the music is more obvious as well. No regrets, even if I’m still a bit concerned about the money I spent, but I’ll happily get over that.

An End Game IEM

After seeking to find the IEM I consider to have the ultimate sound quality, the Zero Reference IEM has satisfied that journey completely. Several years ago I thought I had found my TOTL IEM, but the Zero has overtakin that position. From the unique design to light weight, to comfortable fit, to the incredibly clear and clean, with no distortion whatsoever sound quality, I just don’t see ever looking for anything else. So happy to have had the chance to purchase the Zero.

I have been seeking what I consider to be the very best in sound quality for over 50yrs now, and I see the Zero Reference IEM as my end game. From the Flare Audio iconic packaging to the slick, supple, easy to wind/unwind cable, to the great assortment of tips, to the actual science behind the development , everyone interested in clear, clean, no distortion whatsoever, to the relatively low price point, and a detail monster should seriusly look into purchasing the Zero Reference IEM.

Finally, recorded music is now heard as though it is live.

It is no exaggeration to say they changed how I hear music. Gone is the wall of sound from orchestral music, replaced with a spread sound stage consisting of individual instruments. I can hear the timbre of voice, brass strings, all reproduced as though I am in the concert hall. From quiet passages to loud without overwhelming and without changing the volume level. Recordings given a new presence, discovered anew. Gone is the fatigue after listening for a while. I now listen with enthusiastic anticipation. Finally, after decades of searching, i am hearing recorded music as though it is live.

Ergonomic mess

I’m giving these 4 stars for a huge issue that came up with my buds. The left connection is pretty sturdy but the right side would pop out so easily that I needed to duct-tape it together. This is inexcusable for an earphone set at this price. The cables should have been attached, but whatever; for some odd reason expensive headsets all have detachable cables. The other huge flaw is that there’s an irreversible kink on the cord right where it connects. The rest of the cable is flat and relaxed, yet because of how they packed it, the cord is kinked so much it made it impossible for me to keep the right side connected. Besides that issue the sound is incredible. Bass is nice and clean. The treble is high and not piercing. Overall it ruins other earbuds and they become addictive to use. Another issue is how big and bulky they are so you really need to make sure your fit is secure. I would give this five stars just for the sound, but I cannot overlook the cheap connectors issue.

Hi P_Spit,

We’re incredibly sorry that your experience with Flare Zero has fallen short.

A huge amount of pride, care, and testing goes into every pair because we want every customer to have an exceptional experience from the moment they arrive. In this case, that has not happened, and it is not good enough.

We have contacted you directly and will take full ownership of getting this resolved immediately. We’re delighted that you love the sound, and we’ll make sure the rest of your Flare Zero experience lives up to it.

It's the detail....

Received my Flare Zero yesterday and I am very, very impressed. A fan of Flare IEMs (started with Jet3, then the Studio Master, now the Zero) and did a whole load of comparisons with the above IEMs, a pair of Grado SR235x and some Apple Pro3.
These were hooked up to my iPhone or MacBook Pro Apple Music via a Chord Mojo2 DACwhich does an amazing job of showing off earphones to their best. What came out was the incredible detail you get from these IEMs. Tiny elements can now be heard, nuances that were missed on inferior headphones. Love em!
Playlist (for anyone that is interested) that I was testing them out against:
* Steve Grossman (with Michel Petrucciani) 'Ebb Tide'
* Norah Jones - 'Don't KNow Why'
* Dixie Chicks - 'Wide Open Spaces'
* Hilltop Hoods - 'Walking Under Stars'
*Nigel kennedy - 'Bach Double in D Minor (Allegro)
*Dunendin Consort - Moart Requiem (Lacrimosa)
* Chilla - 'Bridget'
* John Barry (Toots Thielemans) - Midnight Cowboy

Takes listening to the next level

Takes listening to the next level. You hear so much more of the layers and details that transform the experience. I use a pocket FiiO dac and this is a perfect companion.
The overall experience is like going from school hall acoustics to the Royal Albert Hall !. Well worth the perceived expense if you value quality sound from a company that is passionate in creating perfection.

Highly Recommended.

Great value for money, excellent sound, comfort and packing.

I’ve bought many sets of IEM (many more expensive than the Zero’s) over past few years and the Zero’s are comfortably the best I’ve heard.

Added to that, Flare’s after sales communication makes me feel both a valued customer and valued part of a community of owners.

Absolutely delighted to put it mildly!

I first listened for 2 or 3 hours to a recording I made of a jazz quintet 20 years ago with a Neumann Dummy Head microphone system and enjoyed it immensely. Then I listened to Duke Ellington's "Piano In The Foreground" again immense enjoyment. Then listened on a favourite quality pair of headphones which made these recordings sound lifeless by comparison.
Obviously I am absolutely delighted with my purchase!

Wow! Nicely done Team Flare!

Packaging and presentation: excellent.

Design: exquisite.

Performance: otherworldly — natural, just like music is supposed to be heard. I've tried many high-performance IEMs over the years. The Flare Zero stands out.

To trial them, I listened to my test set:

* Pink Floyd — "Shine On You Crazy Diamond"
* Duke Ellington — "Solitude"
* Ella Langley — "Choosin' Texas"
* Mahler's First

I've been using them all morning without any sign of fatigue.
