I recently tried the calmer max earplug in a busy shopping mall, and overall, I was really impressed with the experience.

They reduced the background noise to a much more comfortable level without making me feel disconnected from my surroundings. I could still hear conversations very clearly, which was probably the biggest advantage for me.

One thing I noticed is that when someone was speaking very close to me, their voice could sound louder than it naturally would. I also felt that some sounds seemed slightly amplified or more prominent, although I’m not exactly sure which frequencies or sounds were responsible for that.

Despite that, the biggest difference for me was how I felt at the end of the day. Normally, a busy environment can leave me feeling overwhelmed by all the background noise, but with the Calmer max, I felt noticeably more relaxed and less drained.

Overall, I’d definitely recommend giving them a try if busy environments feel overwhelming but you still want to hear conversations and stay aware of what’s happening around you.

I can't remember when was the last time I had any kind of earpiece or tips with such an aggressive ridge (from the mold) on it. Perhaps it's the material, or the orientation of the ridge (the regular Calmer has a vertical ridge that is not noticeable), but it's clearly not something that you can see on the product page. Nor do I expect this from a product this expensive.
To me, this seems like a huge basic design or production flaw. Despite the Calmer itself seeming to work as intended, the tips are unusable for me, and, as such, the entire product. If I were Flare, I would go back to the manufacturer with this. A long and arduous process, I know.

It muffle more than with the original ones. At the same time it create a weird increase volume on aome type of sounds. Easier to put in but not sure I like tonuse rhem

I waited before writing this review because I wanted to test the earplugs in various environments. I really wanted to love them and find them to be the ultimate solution, but that isn't the case; they are just another addition to my collection. Regarding the advertising claim that Calmer Max offers "no muffled sound effect"—specifically the comparison stating "Calmer Max: minimizes internal head noise; other earplugs: increase internal noise and make conversation harder"—I’m sorry to say that isn't true. The sensation is very similar to that of competing brands designed for conversation; yes, that muffled feeling persists—albeit slightly less intensely, likely because the overall noise reduction is lower (Calmer Max seems to vary by frequency, peaking at 16 dB).
Ultimately, I find it useful to switch between Calmer Max, classic flare with filters on and competing earplugs depending on the intensity and type of noise.
As for the packaging, I have always found Flare’s approach disappointing; in this case, the outer packaging is a flimsy cardboard sleeve that tears immediately and ends up in the trash. The earplug case itself is a very lightweight, basic clear plastic box, while no dedicated packaging was designed for the alternative tips, they simply arrive in one of Flare’s classic tin boxes, where they tend to get stuck in the lid.

Im very happy about my calmer max. They take the edges of sound and reduce noise from the street. Actually I wasnt aware that I was so sound sensitive, but it appears that I am because using the calmer max is really a relief. I can warmly recommend them and any with a sensitive personality will benefit from using them Im sure :)

Best version yet. They stay perfectly stable in the ear and are not coming out. That is a big difference to the previous models. The noise protection was great before and is still great, plus lowering the volume by a bit. I highly recommend them to anyone who hates being distracted in crowded environments.

I have used the original Calmer earplugs since they were introduced. Their effect is subtle. The world doesn’t sound •different•, just a bit more clear, a bit less harsh. They lift my spirits, but I have never felt sure just how big the effect really is, and I was hungry for more.

Calmer Max are more: the world sounds categorically different. Harsh noises don’t disappear entirely but they are dramatically re-shaped and blunted, while voices come through unchanged (except the sound of my OWN voice!).

Calmer made me realize how noise-sensitive I was, so I am glad to have the upgrade.

Had no effect on me unfortunately

I've been wearing the Max for a few days now. Mainly outdoors in a city context. I have an ABI and irrelevant noise is my enemy. The 'normal' calmers have been my sidekicks for a ling time now, can't function without them. Indoors, the Max is too much, I use the regular calmers indoors. The main disadvantage os the Max is wind noises, they are amplified by the Max, like a tiny wind tunnel. That is why they are almost perfect. I like them a lot, but I want blue ones :-)

I'm autistic and I've purchased most iterations of Calmer as they've been released (the prototype was a bit pricey). The Calmer Max are the best so far, with a hint of noise cancellation. They feel more secure in my ears.

I only wore them at work one day. I felt no different, but I worked steadily and thought I tackled some big projects well for me. Then my coworker asked what I’d been doing all day and as usual I couldn’t instantly account for my time so I’m still a failure.

I like the brand, they deliver with every product in quality and functionality.

So far I love the Calmer Max, had them for a few weeks now. I find that it reduces the annoying background noises enough that they don't agitate me as much and I can still keep a conversation fine. It doesn't make my "inner noises" as amplified as other earplugs (e.g. Loop Engage). I can actually eat, speak and still listen/hear at the same time.

I've worn these a few times now. For the first two times, it felt off - one kept popping out of my ear. Turns out, I think one of my ear holes is larger than the other? I need one small earpiece and one medium. Go figure.
After that discovery, everything's been good. It's a little annoying trying to figure out which earplug goes in which ear now (the earpieces look almost identical) but they block just the right amount of sound and I don't hear myself breathing over what I'm trying to hear.
Definitely worth the purchase price.

Little hard to p,ace plastic is hard to maneuver

Having purchased and used previous versions of the Calmer, including the Calmer Pros, I can honestly say that the Calmer Max is the best version yet.

I’m quite a sweaty person, so with the previous models I often found myself constantly adjusting them and pushing them back into my ears. The silicone tips on the Calmer Max make a huge difference: they stay securely in place and are much more comfortable to wear.

They also provide the most effective reduction in overwhelming sound that I’ve experienced from the Calmer range. I was diagnosed with autism and ADHD later in life, at the age of 40, and I also suffer from tinnitus in both ears, as well as being highly sensitive to sound.

Since using the Calmer Max, I’ve experienced fewer tinnitus attacks and no longer feel as overwhelmed when leaving the house.

They’ve made a genuinely noticeable difference to my everyday life, and I would highly recommend them to anyone who struggles with sound sensitivity.

For me personally makes the sounds more clearer thus louder including my own voice, so not sure if I'm being loud with my customer or not. No idea if it helps with sensitivity though, not in tune with my body that well, but feels like audio enhance and better even though everything's more clearer. Still using the weird itchy plastic for pads, no idea if the material or size, but they hurt. There are other products with same or similiar tips, not great, why not use more quality and softer ones, I don't know. Oh and cleaning, still haven't figured out how to do effectively so that they become clean, there's always some bits of earwax stuck somewhere somehow. Calmer Extra seems to be best but even harder to properly clean.

I have auditory sensory issues and work in a very busy, child-focused public library. As a result, my working environment is often loud and full of sudden shrieks (usually of laughter and joy, which is great) which can trigger anxiety attacks for me. I use regular Flare Calmers to help mitigate this, since they take the high edges off of those shrieks. I had hoped these would be a similar experience without muffling voices or resulting in head-noise that make it hard for me to focus.

They work fantastically for muting the highs that bother me. A+, highly recommend. Unfortunately, they won't work for me long-term at the library because I find that I can't tell how loud my voice is when I speak while wearing them. I think they work precisely as they're designed to and I love them for that, but they just won't work for me in my situation personally.

I can’t give this a good rating, even though I’d like to based on my previous model experiences. I found them to be ineffective in reducing peripheral noise. The fit is poor and I needed to use a small tip in one ear and medium in the other to get them to mostly stay in. Both tend to fall out when speaking. I have used both Calmer and Calmer extra for years, and the Calmer Extra has been the best for me.

Interestingly, though these work for a lot of people, and I know many people for which they do work; for both myself and my partner, they made things worse. The seems to cut out certain frequencies but the remaining ones were much harsher and louder. It was a most unpleasant experience. Seems to be a difference in audio-processing. (Context: both AuDHD).

I got these because I like the regular Calmer and the Calmer Pro. I’ve been using them for years. I was hoping that the Calmer Max would alleviate the strange itching that I get in my ears from those models and provide some additional sound dampening for my noisy home.

They do provide sound dampening, but unfortunately I absolutely hear my own voice in my head, and they amplify chewing and also, inexplicably, fan noise in the home which is definitely something I would’ve expected to be reduced.

I can’t quite figure out how these are working so well for other people, but for me, they are not as advertised. I would need to use them as an ear plug when I need one, albeit less effective one. Maybe for sleeping.

I've only worn them once in a noisy environment so far. They helped muffle the noise, but it was distracting how it sounded when I talked. I will keep trying them and update my review when I get some more wear time.

Came with three sizes of silicone earpieces, a small case for carrying the earplugs and a keyring holder too! They are definitely more effective at cutting down frequencies than my previous version. The price is also good value in my opinion. Very happy with this purchase.

I'm AuDHD. CALMER MAX gives me clear sound, while removing the "spikiness" from my nervous system. AND they're comfortable to wear—even for all-day use—AND I don't hear my own heartbeat or chewing while wearing them. First pair of ear protection that gives me all of that!
