Calmer® Performance is a unique ear tool that reduces our stress response to noise by balancing sound energy before it reaches the ear. The small cylindrical design features replaceable silicone tips in three sizes for a perfect fit. Designed to be worn comfortably in the ear for long periods of time, Calmer Performance maximises brain function and minimises distractions.

Calmer Performance is for anyone who wants to reduce stress caused by everyday noise. Noise-sensitive people often notice the effect immediately, whereas others may need to wear Calmer Performance for 5-10 minutes in a noisy setting and then remove them to appreciate the stress reduction that Calmer Performance is delivering.

Calmer Performance is an ear tool that balances sound energy before it reaches the ear. They are ideal for people who need to hear every detail but without the sharp sound peaks that cause stress and discomfort. Calmer Performance fits discreetly inside the ear, comes with 3 pairs of replaceable silicone tips and can be worn for long periods of time to improve wellbeing. It’s not a traditional earplug and it doesn’t block or muffle sound which means you don’t experience the occlusion effect that is common with all other earplugs.

Calmer Performance allows you to communicate perfectly and is designed to become part of your everyday routine. Wear Calmer Performance just before you enter a noisy space and keep it in your ears until you leave so that you minimise your stress response. Typical places to wear Calmer Performance include... Busy Places, Public Transport, Noisy offices, Schools, Hospitals, Restaurants, Bars, Cafes, Shops and more.

Calmer Performance tunes our ears so that as sound energy enters, it is controlled and balanced. This precision ear tool is unique and works in a similar way to how musical instruments are tuned to perfect their sound. The technology relies on a specifically tuned sound tube which creates a balanced frequency response inside the ears. There is no sound reduction or muffling - just a balanced, calmer way of hearing.

According to The World Health Organisation (WHO), environmental noise is the second biggest killer after air pollution. They highlight that just a 10dB increase in daily traffic noise exposure leads to a significant increase in heart attack, obesity and stroke because it creates additional stress on our bodies due to the increased release of the stress hormone cortisol.

Following two decades of research in sound and hearing, we have discovered that noise is not the only problem - the shape of our ears also has a significant impact. Our ears are shell-like shapes that have evolved to increase stress response to sound by resonating sound at frequencies between 2kHz – 8kHz. This resonance triggers the release of cortisol. Whilst the effects of HRTF have been known and studied for some time, we are the first to realise that our ear shape plays a role in the release of cortisol and have developed unique technology to address the issue.

Which Calmer?

Advanced ear technology

  • Your ears were never designed to hear high definition sound - and here’s why…

Our ear shape is made from irregular bends and surfaces. As sound enters our ear canal, sound bounces off of these surfaces and causes chaotic reflections that interfere with each other. This resonant effect builds up and distorts the original sound you’re listening to.

As a result, the distorted sound we’re constantly bombarded with can cause stress, noise sensitivities and a lack of audio clarity.

  • Calmer Performance is a precisely tuned earpiece that removes the peak resonance created by our ears. The patented, high-precision technology creates a balanced frequency response which removes the +20 dB boosting we all experience.

The clever bit is that you’ll still hear sound at these frequencies just without the resonance that causes stress. This new passive, micro technology is completely discreet and sits comfortably inside the ear.

I’ve owned the Flare Calmer Performance for quite

I’ve owned the Flare Calmer Performance for quite some time. I use it for my auditory sensory pain (I am diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum) and as a disability aide at work. I have used a variety of Calmer products and would definitely say that this one is the best and most comfortable to wear long term. I can’t live without them which is why I give it 4 stars.

The only thing I don’t like is the design. I’m aware that it may look the way that it does to achieve the pitch down affect however because the acrylic component sticks straight out it can be hard to know if it orientated in a safe position. It can feel a bit oddly weighted and differently weighted on each ear. I would have preferred a design similar to the Flare Definition so that it could fit more snug in the bottom cartilage of the ear. I own the Definition and it does not have any calming affect for me.

Much more discreet

I've already reviewed the black version of the Calmer performance and love them, although I do catch them from time to time on clothing like beanies or hoodies they're still getting 5 stars for their ability to calm down background noise while retaining detail in sounds better than the original silicone calmers, and now comes in clear for a more discreet look. Although these were designed for athletes etc I find I'm wearing them all day around the house or just going for a walk, the frequencies they cut down just make life more relaxing.

Little gems

As a long time calmer user I got excited when I seen the new release for the calmer performance. Although I'd just purchased the calmer 2 prototype and absolutely love them, (so didn't really need to purchase the performance), it was the design that caught my eye and I just had to get myself a pair to try out.
I was actually going to knock a star off at first because I was finding it difficult to get fitment right. But they are extremely light and I have big fingers so my little issue there might not be the same for everyone else, so didn't Think it was right to do this for such a minor and personal issue, also my 5 stars is based off how they perform once inserted correctly.
I live nearly 3 miles away from the M1 motorway and can constantly hear the rolling road noises in the distance and find it distracting. The performance turned that volume down so much I don't even notice it anymore allowing me to focus more on any tasks that require my concentration while allowing me to hear the things I need to in greater detail than the standard calmers do. They really do lower that background noise that I find myself wearing them for most of the day. I'm happy I made this purchase.

Helps to calm and focus

Not sure how this product works but works really good, helps me to focus.
Only disadvantage is cannot use for longer time and its uncomfortable in ear.

Good Performance, Slight Comfort Trade-Off

Calmer Performance is an interesting step up in terms of sound smoothing, especially in busy environments like social gatherings. They take the edge off harsh frequencies without muffling everything, which makes conversations feel more natural. They’re easy to carry around. The only downside—and the reason for the missing star—is comfort. After longer use, they can feel slightly intrusive, and I found myself needing short breaks more frecuently than using Calmer.

Excellent product

Excellent product. I bought these online after having suffered from tinnitus for years. Sometimes when I’m out in noisy environments I have trouble with ambient noise. These are great for that and I was definitely surprised at how well they work.

Just keeps coming apart, and doesn't help at all, cotton would feel better and do a better job honestly, was really hopeful when ordering these, did the reverse as calming.

Not good

Unfortunately I haven't noticed any significant difference while wearing them and on top of that the smallest size of the tip still hurts to wear. For me this purchase was a waste of my money.

Calmer Performance

I can’t get on with these because of the fitting, and/or the tips. I’ve used the memory foam and the silicone tips, and they’re just uncomfortable for me. It may well be also due to the form factor, with there not being a set way to fit them; I’m constantly adjusting and touching them. They are very small, and the part that you handle can feel quite sharp. The finish on the end where tip fits feels sharp and rough from however it’s made. The cardboard packaging is not the easiest thing to open, and I’m not a fan of the alternative cloth pouch that it comes with. A small plastic container would be better.

Good in social settings

These are a great product.
I’ve tried the black and clear versions with silicone and memory foam tips.
In social settings they really help to lessen the impact of harsher sounds.

For a gym or sport setting they don’t quite hit the spot, but the Flare team have been wonderful at listening to my needs and trying to find something that would suit.

Fit and work great

Fit and work great. Calmer is a good name. I'm calmer in the same environment.

I wear them while working at the computer, driving in the car, walking the dog. And they noticeably take the edge out of noise.

A few days ago a was passing a creek with a little waterfall and was startled, even disoriented because of the unusual distinction between the different sounds. With the naked ear this is the typical waterfall noise, but with the Calmer Performance in the ears, I could make out that each part of the waterfall in fact made a specific noise. They were clearly seperated.

Price? Wow, steep for a little plastic. But I get it, shipping and R&D is included in the price. That's why you guys can come up with these innovations. I appreciated the Blackfridy deal though.

These work

I’ve tried three other brands that offer similar products and this is the only one fits, doesn’t make the world sound muffled, and actually reduces stress.

Not that great

I had the calmer 2 prototype, but i lost 1 of them and tried to buy a new one, but they had stopped selling them. They suggested i try performance because it was basically the next version from the prototype i had, so i tried. The prototype is better than performance in every single way. Performance doesnt look that great, it is long so if you fall or get a blow to the ear, you risk serious ear damage. It doesnt fit in ear as good as calmer 2 prototype either. All in all, a disappointment, and i feel its not worth the money.

Miraculous

I am a high school teacher. Ironically, lots of ambient noise in a room makes me feel nervous and anxious . Calmer performance help me every day to feel — calmer haha. Seriously. And able to handle things in a— calmer— way ha ha. Seriously. I have tried those others from that other brand and they muffle the sound a lot— these don’t do that so much. You do have to get used to them though. I would say that if you don’t mind the feeling of ear buds than these won’t be such a big adjustment. My friend who is wired similarly to me does NOT enjoy the feeling of ear buds at all, so she didn’t like these much.Note: they are not ear buds, but I am using that analogy to let you know that if you don’t like that feeling, these are not for you. But if you don’t mind, and can afford it, then try them because you might be amazed. It does take a little getting used to— you need to try them all day for a couple days before you quit on them. I have the memory foam tips— I can’t speak to the silicone tips.

The Bees Knees!

These upgraded Calmer Performance buds are the bees knees! They give me the focus I need when in environments that would otherwise overwhelm me, and they ensure I can perform tasks and activities I need to get done to the best of my ability without sensory overwhelm. Great update, my favourite Flare product so far!

Everyone is different

Everyone is different. I have a number of different Flare products and there are certain types that I prefer. The Flare Calmer Pro’s were my go to for nearly a year every day. Then I came across the Definition’s and they have been my go to ever since. They give the same pleasing sound as the Calmer Pro’s but with what seems like less decibels and more, well, definition. While using the Definition’s I bought the Performance and wore them a couple of days but went back to the Definition’s. It is what I prefer. It’s not that performance are good or bad, I just prefer something else. I would say Performance are somewhere between Calmer Pro’s and Definition for me, but to be honest, I have not given them a good run for their money as the Definition’s won out.

Effective

I’ve been using Calmer everyday and it’s been really effective filtering out whichever frequencies have been causing nervous system dysregulation due to sound sensitivity and tinnitus. The most noticeable difference is my energy level and cognitive functioning at the end of the day.

I bought the Calmer Performance in February and have found it to be even more noticeable in reducing those frequencies. I can imagine how both products can seem ineffective for anyone who doesn’t suffer from sound sensitivity and/or tinnitus. But for me, they definitely have been lifesavers as I work in an environment that has a cacophony of sounds and I interact with people, so concentrating on trying to hear in conversations can be very taxing.

Mixed feelings

It looks like hi-tech but in reality it's just plastic pipe. When comparing to calmer, it is in fact sitting tight in your ear but I feel a bit of pain at the end of the day. Sometimes I hear like underwater. Not sure what is the performance here.

Works as described but I prefer softer Calmers

It did work for me but I'm among the more sensitive people and I don't like the feeling of something pressing on my ears. For long-term use, I found standard Calmer and Calmer Extra better options and use them daily.
