We've been huge fans of The Prodigy since the beginning. Their fearless creativity, groundbreaking sound and Liam Howlett's extraordinary approach to music production have always resonated with us. So when Liam first tried our earphones in June 2017, it was a massive moment. Little did we know where it would lead.

 

Fast forward to Summer 2024, and we found ourselves embarking on something we could only have dreamed of. Working directly with our inventor and co-founder, Davies Roberts, the band have co-created a sonic powerhouse. But this was never about putting The Prodigy's name on an existing earphone. It was about building something entirely new, shaped by their uncompromising vision for sound.

 

Liam has understood our approach to sound for years. Like us, he's never been afraid to challenge convention, question established thinking or push boundaries.

 

The brief was simple. Achieving it was anything but.

 

From the finest high-frequency detail to the deepest sub-bass, The Prodigy wanted extraordinary clarity, dynamics and raw energy. An earphone that could reproduce his music exactly as he intended, while transforming the experience of listening to any music.

HUNDREDS OF PROTOTYPES. COUNTLESS LISTENING SESSIONS

What followed was an intense two year development process spanning hundreds of prototypes and countless hours of listening, testing and refining.

 

Liam and Davies worked closely together through repeated studio sessions, scrutinising every detail of the sound. Just when we thought we'd cracked it, Liam would push us further.

 

“Liam is meticulous about sound, his attention to detail in creating this earphone sent us back to the drawing board countless times.” reveals Roberts.

 

And that's what made this collaboration so special. Liam and Maxim weren't simply approving a finished product. They were actively shaping the sound, challenging our technology and driving us towards something extraordinary.

Bluetooth was ruled out early on. The band insisted on wired earphones because they deliver a direct, uninterrupted connection to the music, without the compression or compromises associated with Bluetooth. Sound quality first, always. 

At the heart of the earphone is our breakthrough, patent-pending sound technology.

Using advanced manufacturing, we've developed intricate internal waveguides designed to minimise unwanted resonance that can distort and blur sound, allowing extraordinary clarity, detail and raw energy to shine through.

But our technology was only the starting point.

Through repeated listening sessions, Liam worked with Davies to refine the sound until it delivered the attack, depth and resolution he demanded.

Once we'd agreed on the sound, the same obsessive attention turned to the design.

“Once we’d perfected the sound signature, that same level of scrutiny from Maxim and Liam went into the design. From the ‘exact shape of the earphone’, how it sits in the ear, the shade and depth of black - to the precise angle of the ant - every tiny detail was analysed, considered and refined”

Nothing was left to chance. The band had a clear vision, and his involvement extended far beyond the sound.

The result reflects the independent spirit and refusal to follow convention that have always defined both The Prodigy and Flare.

The Prodigy have spent decades challenging expectations, creating a sound and identity entirely their own and inspiring generations of music lovers.

In a world of disposable technology and mass-produced products, we wanted to create something with substance. Something developed with passion, purpose and an extraordinary level of care.

Every Prodigy earphone is hand-built at our headquarters in West Sussex, England, in limited monthly batches.

Tech Deep Dive

  • Traditional earphones create resonance, where sound bounces around the shell of an earphone causing sharp, painful distortions. An internal waveguide reflects sound directly out of the earphone to stop resonance occuring. Significantly higher levels of detail without any distortion.

  • Human ears distort sound due to the organic shape of our ears. We tuned the output of our earphone to match the precise tuning point of the human ear to remove ear distortions. Sound from the high-spec Beryllium driver is tuned precisely for the human ear unlocking significantly greater detail in music.
