Genius aid for noise sensitivity.

I have been using Flare for a little over a week now, and they have helped me decrease outbursts of overwhelm significantly. I am so grateful for these wonderful little earpieces, and so is my daughter because she can just be her loud, happy little self again without me having a meltdown because of noise sensitivity!

Life changing.

It is amazing! For me I could feel the difference almost instantly. It does take edge of sounds, especially sounds from bad speakers. I never knew noise sensitivity adds day to day stress massively

Working with your ears

Calmer is unique in that they work with the natural shape of our ears without blocking the ear canal. It features a hollow chamber that helps reduce harsh frequencies without obstructing airflow or normal sound transmission.

Unlike traditional earplugs, Calmer doesn’t block sound entirely. Instead, it smooths out sharp peaks while maintaining clarity, so you can still hear conversations and ambient noise naturally.

Why we don’t think blocking is best...

Soothing Spiky Sounds

Calmer soften stress-inducing mid-frequency distortions (around 2 kHz–8 kHz), which can make sounds like alarms, chewing, or high-pitched voices feel less jarring. Essentially, Calmer fine-tunes how sound waves interact with your ears, reducing stress-triggering noise without compromising awareness.

Unlike traditional earplugs, Calmer doesn’t block sound entirely. Instead, it smooths out sharp peaks while maintaining clarity, so you can still hear conversations and ambient noise naturally.

Takes the irritation out of it!

These bring the noise to a bearable level! Takes the irritation out of it! I hear an echo with my own voice when I’m reading to my kids, but these make it to where I don’t hear that.

Life savers.

I love Calmer, the difference they make for me is amazing. I find low rumble sounds unbearable and I'm unable to zone them out, but with these in I am able to.

They help with my sound sensitivity and ease my anxiety because they help reduce the noise triggers by redirecting the way sounds enter my ears. I have narrow ear cannels and the mini fit perfectly.

Make the world a little more peaceful.

These little beauties are great, especially in loud places like the open plan office and restaurants. They cut down the road noise of driving on the motorway and they make the excited shrieks of my nieces a little less shrill so I feel less overwhelmed when I spend time with family.

Just What I Needed!

When I first put these in, I thought I was going to cry. The world was so quiet, it was peaceful. They fit perfectly and do not grow bothersome during extended use. Fantastic product and a real gamechanger for this Autistic person.

really helpful product

This is my second time purchasing Calmer. I have found them really helpful at work, and just generally, as they dampen background noises but don't reduce sounds (e.g. voices), so I can focus better. I had a query about the product, as when it arrived I saw that it was Calmer Soft. Customer service explained to me that the Soft range has replaced the original Calmer; I purchased another pair of original Calmer from the Outlet as well so I have a spare. I am very happy with my experience.

Exactly what I hadn’t dared hoped for..

I am almost 50 and have always been sensitive to noise but the impact on my life over the last 20 years has become quite profound and isolating. I can only work in a very quiet environment but even electrical hum, door squeak, and aircon leaves me rattling and depleted by the end of the day. If I spend an evening in a ‘noisy’ environment it can take me several days to recharge.

I didn’t realise until recently that noise sensitivity is actually a thing and that there were solutions to be tried. After several months of reading and indecision I chose Flare Calmer with additional 10db reduction.

I had prepared myself to not notice much immediate difference and to give it time to assess any gradual effect on my stress levels, assuming I could tolerate them in my ears at all. Within minutes of wearing I could not feel them but felt almost instantly calmer. It was really quite a profound experience for me. I felt an almost overwhelming sense of relief, like a blanket had been thrown over jaggy edges. My tinnitus was not magnified in any way, nor was the sound of my breathing. I was at home, in silence, and the only sound to dampen was the distant tortuous hum of motorway. I could still hear it but it no longer felt like it was directly wired to my cortisol production.

At work I was able to hear everyone who spoke to me - even those who spoke quietly - and I felt far more able to engage with conversation and pay attention.

I generally suffer through time in public spaces but went for a pint in our local pub and the background noise did not cause the normal spike in stress. Again, it was quite profound to realise how relaxing and enjoyable an experience such a simple activity is when you are not experiencing sensory overload.

I have not been anywhere else to try them yet but am now feeling FAR less apprehensive about going on holiday next month - airport and plane noise is unbearable to me, and I REALLY struggle in restaurants. We have booked a complex of 8 apartments, on the edge of a village, because it’s all I can cope with. 20 years ago, before I understood and accepted my limits. I saved long and hard to go on a 2 week cruise but had to get off the ship after 3 days. I think I would have been ok if I’d had these wonderful things with me.

My only criticism is that I had mistakenly thought that I could purchase a lanyard to attach them to. I could lose my own head in a hat and I’m not confident that they will be in my possession very long, no matter how much I value them or how intent I am to put them back in a case or bag. Given the usefulness of these wonderful creations to the neurodivergent I think this is a quite a significant hindrance. A small loop at the end of the exhaust would make these absolutely perfect.

My heartfelt gratitude to the originator of the concept and design and to all who continue to develop and evolve the range. You have changed my world

Our Story

The very first Flare products came to life at our first Flare HQ – a garage in our founders garden. As a small team of three we designed and built our first loudspeakers and provided PA for gigs and festivals.

It wasn’t long before we ran out of space...
