I’ve only noticed a mild improvement in following dialog while watching TV. I still need to have closed captions on. I have yet to try them in a restaurant as they are rather noticeable when you wear them.
These earplugs make it possible for me to, for example, remain in a busy restaurant or attend a large family gathering. The ability to focus what you can hear and ‘dampen’ the ambient noise reduces anxiety and helps with conversation.
I got these for my sister, who uses them for work video meetings and for in-class lectures. She finds them very helpful for lectures, as she can focus on the professor and not get distracted by the noises of the students around her. One of the other students in her class noticed her putting them in and came over to talk with her about how amazing they were, because she had just started using them this semester as well. I'll probably pick up a pair for my dad, who has trouble with conversation in restaurants and such with all the background noise.
