The King’s Award for Enterprise recipients were invited to an exclusive event at Windsor Castle on June 12th, where they were able to speak with King Charles and Princess Anne about the impact their work has had on the Nation. Business leaders and entrepreneurs from the fields of Innovation, Environment and Export attended, representing companies and individuals who show the best qualities of British business.

The afternoon started with a champagne reception, followed by an event running over two hours in St George's Hall, a stunning room within the Castle, where King Charles mingled freely with the guests, ensuring he spoke with all attendees.

Flare was one of a small number of companies chosen for an award in the Innovation category this year, due to the amazing breakthrough that Calmer’s design has achieved and the people it’s helped across the globe.

“I was able to speak with the King for quite some time,” explains Davies. “I thanked him for recognising the company with the Award and we went on to discuss Calmer, the ways in which it’s been helping people and being a British business. We talked about how Calmer are great for events like the one we were at - and I gave him his own set, which he put in his top pocket.”

“The King was warm, open and interested,” reports Davies. “It was humbling, exhilarating and meaningful, and helped affirm that we are doing great things. Awards such as this, which are highly contested and go through many layers of assessment, help small companies like us feel recognised. This award and the opportunity to speak with The King about our work is undeniable recognition of what we are achieving, and has incentivised me to keep driving forwards and pushing boundaries.”

In fact, Flare’s next big achievement is already on the cards.

“We’ve already made our next monumental breakthrough and are working hard to bring this to market,” reveals Davies. “Meanwhile we’ve managed to apply the calming and stress relieving properties of Calmer’s technology into a brand-new product that will benefit anyone who has noise sensitivity or who wants a calmer listening experience – so watch this space.”

One thing’s for certain, Flare will continue to be one of the few companies who think outside of the box and aren’t afraid to re-think traditional approaches to technology. “This is how true breakthroughs are made,” affirms Davies. “Question things, look under the surface, and don’t be afraid to rock some boats. We want to bring higher sound quality to everyone. Whether with passive inserts, by reducing stress or with earphone technology to improve the way you hear music… So there’s more exciting times ahead for Flare and our brilliant customer community.”
