What are Calmer?

Calmer® is a life-changing product worn in the ear that gently reduces hearing sensitivity without blocking any sound or making you feel isolated.

They come in a selection of sizes and finishes:

Calmer: The original Calmer worn by 90% of customers

Calmer Mini: The same great tech but for those with very small ear canals.

Calmer Pro: Our most advanced Calmer in the range. Combine a soft silicone wrap with an aerospace aluminium waveguide.

Calmer Secure: Calmer attached to a flexible lanyard. Comes in Standard and Mini.

Calmer Night: Made from a softer silicone than standard Calmer, especially for wearing for a relaxing nights sleep. Reduces the stress response to trigger noises at night.

Calmer Kids and Calmer Kids Secure: Our kid friendly version made especially for smaller ears. The same size as Calmer Mini but made from an even softer silicone.

How do they work?

Calmer® work by changing the internal shape of our ears. They are hollow so won't block volume like all other earplugs do. They simply make trigger sounds less annoying and much more manageable. Plus because they are hollow your own voice doesn’t sound odd when you wear them.

What are Trigger Sounds?

Calmer 'clean up' sound by reducing the distortion in frequencies between 2-5kHz which is where the most irritating noises are found.

Noises like: Eating sounds, mouth sounds, cutlery, ticking, tapping, electric sounds, screeches, background chatter...

Calmer don’t reduce volume - they reduce the irritating distortion.

We've learnt that everyone's ear canals resonate sound differently - as everyone's ears are a unique shape. Therefore some noises (specifically those between 2-5kHz) effect everyone differently. For some people it can be painful - others find them irritating and some don't mind them at all.

Calmer help reduce the resonance in these noises, they are a soft silicone hollow waveguide that smoothly directs sound to our ears.

What size do I need?

If you don't know what size ear canals you have then we will always recommend our standard size Calmer®. Most people find they're a great fit.

If you know you have smaller ear canals (maybe you use small tips for earphones, or foam plugs pop out of your ears) then go for Calmer® Mini.

Calmer and sensitive hearing

Calmer are perfect for anyone who experiences sensitivity to sound. This might be something you have to manage all the time or only occasionally.

What's the difference between Calmer standard, Calmer Mini?

First things first - Calmer and Calmer Mini work in exactly the same way. They both reduce stressful frequencies by the same amount and they both come in the same colour options. The difference is that Calmer Mini is roughly half the size.

So...If you know you have smaller ear canals then go for Calmer Mini. They are just as effective as the standard Calmer. Size isn't everything!

Calmer ProIf you're looking for a more accurate sound delivery and further stress reduction, Calmer Pro is the one for you. Calmer Pro has an aluminium waveguide (compared to silicone for regular Calmer) which guides sound more accurately into the ear. Because the sound is more accurate, there is less distortion and therefore lower stress levels.

Calmer KidsCalmer Kids are made especially for younger ears. They are the same size as Calmer Mini but made from a softer silicone than the adult version. They come in an option with an attached lanyard (Calmer Kids Secure).

Calmer and Misophonia: Calmer changes the shape of our internal ear shape to remove the distortions that trigger misphonia and a lot of other hearing related conditions. Read our blog on misophonia here.

Calmer and Tinnitus: We'll be the first to say that Calmer was not designed to help with tinnitus but we have had some customers tell us how Calmer has helped with their symptoms. We don't recomend buying Calmer for this purpose, but if you find that some sounds are very irritating or that you have sensitive hearing then Calmer will help with that.
