Calmer is for anyone who wants to reduce stress caused by everyday noise. Noise-sensitive people often notice the effect immediately, whereas others may need to wear Calmer for 5-10 minutes in a noisy setting and then remove them to appreciate the stress reduction that Calmer is delivering.

What is Calmer?

Calmer is a hollow, soft silicone, ear tool that reduces ear resonance. It’s not a traditional earplug and it doesn’t block or muffle sound which means you don’t experience the occlusion effect that is common with all other earplugs. Calmer fits discreetly inside the ear and can be worn for long periods of time to improve wellbeing.

When to use Calmer

Calmer allows you to communicate perfectly and is designed to become part of your everyday routine. How Calmer Works

Calmer alters the internal shape of our ears to reduce ear resonance at frequencies between 2-8 kHz. They feature a flat surface inside a hollow soft silicone design to improve how sound reflects inside our ears. This helps reduce stress from sound with no volume reduction or muffling - just a calmer way of hearing.

Why do I need Calmer?

According to The World Health Organisation (WHO), environmental noise is the second biggest killer after air pollution. They highlight that just a 10dB increase in daily traffic noise exposure leads to a significant increase in heart attack, obesity and stroke because it creates additional stress on our bodies due to the increased release of the stress hormone cortisol.

Following 2 decades of research in sound and hearing, we have discovered that noise is not the only problem - the shape of our ears also has a significant impact. Our ears are shell-like shapes that have evolved to increase stress response to sound by resonating sound at frequencies between 2kHz – 8kHz. This resonance triggers the release of cortisol. Whilst the effects of HRTF have been known and studied for some time, we are the first to realise that our ear shape plays a role in the release of cortisol and have developed unique technology to address the issue.

Calmer is designed to reduce distortion caused by the shape of the ear by using a tiny waveguide to reflect sound more accurately into the ear. This reduces the impact of harsh and stress-inducing frequencies without blocking or muffling sound.
By lowering the stress response to everyday noise, many people find sound feels more comfortable and less overwhelming, particularly in busy or noisy environments. Some customers with tinnitus choose to use Calmer for this reason.

These would not stay in my ears

These would not stay in my ears. I’ve had success with all other types of earplugs sound isolation, earplugs, and your other products but these just did not stain my ears.

Early days, yet

I hope to update this review at a later time, as i just received my mini calmers yesterday.
First, I chose the nude colour for invisibility. Seems like a good idea. Until you lose one. I did find it, hours later. By feel, not sight. So, next time i would order a brighter colour. To remedy this i have tied a light embroidery floss thread to them. This seems to work just fine. And it can be removed. I did not buy the connected Calmers, because just looking at them i could tell they stuck out and would be irritating. Comments in reviews confirmed my suspicion.
Next, these are very comfortable. You forget they are there. Which is why i lost one, probably rubbing my ear. Maybe a standard sized one would fit me and stay put? I could only choose one atm, and my music earbuds always need to be the smallest size, so i based my decision on that. I will say, the mini goes very far into the ear and only Inspector Gadget would notice it. The photos of the standard size seem to show it being quite visible outside the ear canal.
Lastly, do they work as intended? That one i will need more time to understand. I live a rural life. Sharp sounds do bother me a lot. I bring ear plugs with me even for driving the car. I will be interested if they help me with that, and otger noisy environments. I shall post an addendum, if possible, later on.
I bought ear plugs from this company when they were just a start-up, years ago. Good quality, always.

Comfortable and vibration dampening

Right when I put my soft purple set in, I actually got a little dizzy (moving things in ears changes balance, yadda yadda). Inside my quiet house, I didn't recognize a big difference, but outside, taking them out and putting them back in brought about quite a change. I could still hear birds, but the extra vibrations inside my ears were dampened. The sound of the freeway wasnt so bad.
So far, I am not sure if the set will save me any energy, but at this point in my health journey I am looking to try anything. At the very least they havent made me expend any extra energy! I have had normal energy the two times I wore them for long periods, and they only started to hurt my inner ear slightly after many hours of wearing them.
My regret is that I got the double set of regular and mini size; I chose that set because I know one of my ear canals is smaller, so I thought I would have to wear the mini over there and the regular in the other ear, but the regular actually fits more perfectly on that smaller side than on the other side! So there goes about $23, because I have nobody to give them to.
But I am happy so far with what I have experienced with the regulars. We will see where it goes!
